The following is the announcement from the Japan Post office on November 2, 2012 which states there will be considerable delays for delivery to ALL regions of The United States of America.

Updated announcement concerning delays in mail delivery due to Hurricane Sandy in the Eastern Region of the United States of America.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) subsequently asked us on November 1 to mail dispatches to their exchange offices in the western region in the U.S. because the International Service Center at JFK Airport and related mail sorting facilities in the eastern region have been damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
Accordingly, there may be considerable delays in the delivery of all postal items to the U.S. due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy in the eastern region and to the related changes in the mail transit route in the western region of the U.S.
Furthermore, there may also be considerable delays in the arrival of mail sent from these regions to Japan. Your understanding of this situation will be appreciated.
